City on the halt: Lagos’ 10-hour paralysing traffic jam

This is the most horrible traffic jam I have experienced in my 17 years in Lagos. I have been here since about 9.30 a.m., it is now 2.30 p.m. and the complete road remains blocked. As it is already, the day is wasted.

MOTHER of all traffic jams. That was what Kunle Bodurin, a medical tackle sales representative, yesterday called the scene ahead of him as he resignedly stepped out of his car at Charity Bus Stop and surveyed the endless line of vehicles, three abreast, winding their way towards Anthony, along Oshodi-Oworonsoki thruway.

Anthony spot was where the gridlock, Bodurin referred to started at about 6.30 a.m.
Shortly after, it led to a gridlock that paralyzed activities in Lagos metropolis for close to 10 hours.

Bodurin said it was very annoying as slowly but steadily, the seconds ticked away into minutes and before I knew it, I had used up more than three hours, stuck at a point.
